  • The AIWD will issue a nationally recognised TAE40110 / TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment Qualification in cases where participants have completed all required components of the required units of competency from within the TAE40110 / TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

Is an AIWD TAE40110 / TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification worth the same as a TAFE TAE40110 / TAA40104 qualification?

  • YES! Participants who successfully complete all components of the AIWD TAE40110 / TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment will receive a nationally recognised TAE40110 / TAA40104 Qualification from the AIWD, which has exactly the same value as a TAE40110 / TAA40104 qualification gained through a TAFE Institute.

Does a course undertaken via Correspondence delivery mode have the same value as a course undertaken via Face-to-Face delivery?

  • YES! Participants who successfully complete all components of the AIWD TAE40110 / TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment Correspondence Course will receive a nationally recognised TAE40110 / TAA40104 Qualification from the AIWD, which has exactly the same value as a TAE40110 / TAA40104 qualification gained with the AIWD, a TAFE Institute or any other Private RTO via face-to-face delivery.

What is the difference between the old TAA40104 and the new TAE40110?

  • The TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is the name of the new Certificate IV, which will eventually replace the existing TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification.
  • At its core, the principles within TAE40110 remain the same as the existing TAA40104. These 2 qualifications are equivalent in broad content and outcomes. This means either qualification will be appropriate to meet the required industry human resource standards of a trainer and assessor.
  • In saying this, as of June 2012, due to the new AQTF Standards, which were issued in July 2010, anyone training and/or assessing nationally recognised qualifications within the VET Sector will require the TAE40110 OR they will be required to demonstrate equivalent competencies to the TAE40110 though condinued professional practice.

Do I need to upgrade my BSZ40198 / TAA40104 qualification to the new TAE40110?

  • NOT NECESSARILY! The new AQTF Standards (released in July 2010) state that anyone training and/or assessing nationally recognised qualifications within the VET Sector will require the TAE40110 as of June 2012 OR they will be required to demonstrate equivalent competencies to the TAE40110.
  • Quoting the National Quality Council (NQC), "It is important to note that the new policy includes provision for trainers and assessors to ‘demonstrate equivalent competencies’. In other words, it is not the NQC’s intention to require trainers and assessors to upgrade their formal qualifications if they are able to demonstrate they have gained the required competencies through continued professional practice".
  • What this means is, your BSZ40198 / TAA40104 qualification will be fine until June 2012 (at the very least) and then if you’re working in a VET Sector environment after this time, you will still be fine post June 2012, as long as you’re able to demonstrate you have gained the required competencies through "continued professional practice".

How long do I have to complete the TAE40110 / TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment via correspondence / self-paced training?

  • In terms of timeframe for course completion, although there is no set timeframe for participants to have their course completed (this is one of the many benefits of the AIWD’s self-paced training program!), we find most part-time participants are able to complete the full TAE40110 / TAA40104 in 6 months or less (depending on other commitments such as work, family, etc), however this timeframe varies greatly.
  • For instance, participants who are able to sit down and work on the course on a full time basis, should be able to get it completed in about 10 days (i.e. 10 x 8hr days = 80hrs).
  • We understand that everyone has different commitments (work, family and personal), so we negotiate course completion with each participant as they progress through their TAE40110 / TAA40104 training - Timeframe for course completion is certainly something that depends greatly on individual circumstances.
  • Regardless of the negotiated course duration, the AIWD keeps very close tabs on each of our self-paced TAE40110 / TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment participants (by way of individualised contact at least monthly) in order to check on how each participant is progressing through their TAE40110 / TAA40104 training and to ensure motivation levels for the completion of the TAE40110 / TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment remains high. Where necessary, we work with individual participants to set targets for the completion of specified assessment tasks.

Can I undertake Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) to gain the TAE40110 / TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment?

  • YES! The AIWD is committed to giving all participants access to the RPL process for TAE40110 / TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
  • RPL is an assessment process that allows an AIWD participant to receive recognition and credit for the knowledge and skills they have, no matter how or where they were attained. This means participants may not need to attend / complete the full TAE40110 / TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment Training Program, but may instead be eligible to receive RPL for all or part of the TAE40110 / TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
  • Where RPL is granted, participants are given full equivalent status, equal to those who would normally complete the TAE40110 / TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment by attendance, assessment and a competent achievement.
  • RPL candidates may receive full recognition for the TAE40110 / TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment in the form of a nationally recognised Qualification, or a Statement of Attainment for recognition of one or more Units of Competency from within the TAE40110 / TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, depending on how may units in which they were able to demonstrate their competency.

How does the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment differ from its predecessor, the BSZ40198 Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training?

  • Firstly, the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment requires participants to gain competency in 14 units, whist BSZ40198 required participants to gain competency in 8 units.
  • The AIWD delivers the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment in approx. 8 days face-to-face (depending on group size and experience) + some post-course requirements, whilst our training team used to deliver the entire BSZ40198 in 5 days face-to-face.
  • Whilst a few of the units from within TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment are similar to the units contained within BSZ40198, other units provide for very different skill sets that were identified as being necessary during a rigorous consultation and review  process when TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment was being developed.
  • The TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment has been endorsed since 23/11/04, so it is important for clients and participants to understand the importance of TAA40104 in terms of the level of skills development it provides, not only to a wider range of VET sector professionals (such as workplace or RTO based assessors, teachers/trainers, educationalists, support personnel and middle level technical managers), but also to trainers/presenters and assessors outside of the VET sector.
